Although the American people have declared loudly and clearly, for years, that they don't want the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge despoiled for the short-term profit of a few oil companies, and the Senate has responded to the people on every occasion, there's minority in the Senate who are in the pockets of said oil companies who won't stop trying. Now there's a provision in the budget resolution that would allow drilling there without a vote on that specific issue--the goal being to get the budget resolution passed so that ANWR drilling will be a done deal without anyone having to consider it on its own merits.
Democratic Senators Kerry (MA) and Cantwell (WA) are introducing the Kerry/Cantwell Amendment, which would strip the drilling provision from the budget. If you haven't already done so, it'd be a good time to call or e-mail your Senators and tell them you want them to support Kerry/Cantwell and protect the Refuge.
This is a fight the nation shouldn't have to keep having over and over, but those diehards just won't quit trying. Maybe if this tactic is shut down, they'll have to.
