It's going to be a long 19 months, because I'm already sick of Rudy Giuliani pretending that he is some sort of anti-terrorist god, and claiming credit for anything involving 9/11.
He actually said this: “If any Republican is elected president —- and I think obviously I would be the best at this —- we will remain on offense and will anticipate what [the terrorists] will do and try to stop them before they do it.”
Maybe if America's biggest threat was homeless guys using old newspapers to wash our windshields against our will, Rudy would be the man for the job. But it's not. And Rudy has zero foreign affairs experience, zero diplomatic experience, and--most tellingly given his comments, ZERO experience protecting even one person from terrorism.
He was elected Mayor of NYC eight months after the WTC was the target of a terrorist attack. In the years between that and 9/11, he did nothing whatsoever to defend the city against another attack. He left the communications systems that already didn't work between various first responders where they were. Against the advice of just about everyone, he set up a "command center" in the WTC--already the target of an attack--ensuring that it would be useless when the big attack came on 9/11. He pushed to get his pal mobster Bernie Kerik appointed Director of Homeland Security, and insisted old Bernie didn't need to be vetted before the appointment.
The real fact is, there isn't a single United States mayor with a WORSE record on terrorism. Just as, despite his claim that only the Republicans can protect America, there's only one president who was on duty when the worst terrorist attack happened--and he's a Republican, and he's still president although he also did nothing beforehand to defend his country. Or much after, since his choices (let bin Laden go so he can go after Saddam Hussein...brilliant) show that he still doesn't understand the problem.
If I have to spend 19 months listening to people claim that Rudy has done anything at all to protect one--just one--single person from a terrorist, I think my brain might just explode.
