Last night I was watching Al Gore's speech endorsing Obama (big shock there, huh?) when I saw something large moving past my window. Since we'd had cows in the pasture all day, I just assumed one of them had found a way in.
But when I looked through the blinds, I saw a young mule deer. You can tell mule deer by the fact that each ear is about the size of its whole head.
This evening, it came back and stayed a while. The dogs alerted us this time, but then the deer had sense enough to go munch the foliage where the dogs couldn't see it, but we could. Since we don't have any actual crops growing currently, we aren't concerned about that (although I haven't quite forgiven the species as a whole for eating my heirloom tomato plant last year). And we like having big animals around with all the bunnies, etc. we get.
I got a couple of pictures of it, through the window. It's not a baby but it's pretty young, and I'm surprised it's hanging around here by itself. Don't tell the mountain lions...
