Over the last 24 hours or so we’ve had more than an inch and a half of rain. On top of last week’s rain (lighter than that here, heavier in other parts of the state), the ground is pretty saturated. What soaked in quickly a week ago is puddles and swamps and thick, soupy muck now. We need it, we’re glad to have it. But it sure makes opening and closing the gate an ordeal.
Here, for instance, is the driveway leading away from the house. I’m not sure how deep those puddles really are—two or three inches, maybe more in spots.
It’s been a long time—summer’s monsoon season—since I’ve fallen asleep at night to the sound of rain on the roof. It’s a beautiful thing.
