I'm expecting a return to workhouses and company towns any day now.

I wish you were being hyperbolic...

My only beef is I don't think we can call the policies of the last 30 years "conservative." Quite "radical" and look where they have led us! Great piece.

What about the Presidents Friends?
In his first public speaking engagement since a barrage of criticism about not having to pay taxes in 2010, GE chief executive Jeff Immelt told the Economic Club in Washington that his company did nothing wrong.

The company is particularly in the spotlight because Immelt also serves as the chief of President Obama's innovation and jobs council. When asked what he thought of criticism that GE isn't a good role model and shouldn't be leading the jobs council, Immelt said he was committed to helping the president build jobs.

Considering that I've heard more than one Tea Partier say that minimum wage ought to be eliminated and that wages should be 'dictated by the market' (that is, big business will pay pennies per hour if they could), I'm guessing that's just about the only real NeoCon plan for reversing the flood of outsourcing and ramping up more jobs here at home...albeit of the sweat shop variety.

Jeff Mariotte

I'm not sure Immelt should be in that job, for just that reason. Apparently GE didn't break the law by not paying taxes, but used every loophole to its greatest effect. The trouble there is that we should stop giving corporations loopholes that encourage them to send their jobs and their business out of the country, and we should expect them to pay their fair share, since they benefit so mightily from having courts and infrastructure and security, etc., paid for by taxes to which THEY aren't contributing.

One of the sad things is that you are right. Permit me to share with you a scripture from one of the LDs standard works.
Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation.

So what is the answer? The answer is that " We the People" need to realize that "we" are the government of these United States.
I think the the election cycles are showing this, but we are not getting the results we wanted...
We want more efficient government.
