Every spring, we have a visiting vermilion flycatcher (most likely not the same one every year). This beautiful bird shows up, hangs around the house for a day or two, then moves on. Last year was the first year I haven't seen one, but I figured that's because it came on a day when I was at work. A few minutes ago, I was looking out the French doors onto the backyard. There have been various birds around today, including a pair of roadrunners and at least one curve-billed thrasher. Then I caught a flash of red, and saw this little guy.
It's cold today, and windy. Supposed to be below freezing tonight. But I guess it really is spring.
