Today's February 1. My new supernatural thriller, Season of the Wolf, debuts this month.
I'd really like people to know about this book, since it's my first novel with publisher DarkFuse and something I've wanted to write for a decade. Plus, it's my fiftieth book, which seems like a reason to celebrate.
To that end, I'm holding a contest.
Before we get to those details, here are some links you should know about:
A brand-new interview with me in The Big Thrill, the newsletter of the International Thriller Writers organization.
The first interview with me about Season of the Wolf, at The Arched Doorway.com.
Some review excerpts:
"Season Of The Wolf will go a long way to further Jeff Mariotte’s reputation as one of today’s best writers of horror and dark fiction. It is highly recommended."
--TT Zuma, HorrorWorld.org
"Season of the Wolf is full of twists that will surprise readers time and time again. With his rich use of description, Mariotte has created a story which will grab the attention of readers and will have them hooked until the very last page; hoping for the survival of characters that they will come to love, even when the odds are against them."
--Rebecca Lovatt, ArchedDoorway.com
"I could hear echoes of Stephen King and Dean Koontz while reading Season of the Wolf and, for this genre, there's no better praise than that."
--Lori Spier, Goodreads
"Season of the Wolf is a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller with a message, and a whole lot of carnage … so release your inner Wolfen, learn a thing or two about the world you live in, and pray you don’t become prey."
--Patrick Heffernan, Mysterious Galaxy
So here's how it works. I can only reach so many people on my own. But everybody working together can reach far more potential readers. Therefore, the idea behind the contest is for all of you to tell everybody you know, and persuade them to tell everybody they know, and so on.
To participate, you will need to spread the word. Social media posts, Tweets, blog posts, reviews, message board mentions...whatever you can think of that will let the world know about Season of the Wolf, you can do.
Each individual mention earns you one entry. If you post a blog about SOTW, that's one entry. If you then do a Facebook post about your blog post, that's another entry. And so on. The more you talk up the book, the more entries you get.
Each individual entry MUST point to at least one of the above reviews or interviews, unless your entry is a review on a bookstore site, like Amazon.com or BN.com, that doesn't enable links. But because reviews are especially helpful, each review posted between now and the contest end date, at a bookselling site or Goodreads, earns you five entries, not just one.
Each entry MUST also point back to this blog post [unless it's a Tweet with limited available characters, in which case just point to a review (or reviews) and/or interview].
The contest will run from today until March 15.
What do you get for all this effort? Glad you asked.
On March 15, I'll put all the entries into a cowboy hat and pull one (or have a third party pull one). That person is the grand prize winner, and will receive:
- My eternal gratitude.
- A signed trade paperback edition of Season of the Wolf.
- A wolf adoption kit--you will have officially adopted a wolf, via Defenders of Wildlife's Adopt a Wolf program. You'll get an adoption certificate with your name on it, wolf facts, and an adorable stuffed wolf (photo for illlustration purposes--I can't guarantee the stuffed wolf will look just like this).
- A 2013 Wolves calendar featuring stunning photogaphs of wolves (and wolf cubs!) from Firefly Books.
- If we get 150 entries, I'll substitute the trade paperback edition of the book with a copy of the very rare, sold-out limited edition hardcover.
- If we get 250 entries, I'll also slip a crisp $100 bill into the book.
- If we get 500 entries, the winner will also be written into my next original thriller or horror novel as a character (of the author's choosing, although you might get some input into the type of character).
In other words, the better job you do telling others about the book, the better the prize gets. The more, the merrier, as they say.
Another important requirement is that you let me know of all your posts, Tweets, reviews, etc. You can do that by commenting on this post and including a link, including me in your Tweet (@JeffMariotte), or posting a link on my Facebook wall at http://www.facebook.com/JeffreyJMariotte.
The most certain way to let me know of your entry, though, is to send a link to SeasonoftheWolf@aol.com.
Here's the fine print: Contest void where prohibited by law, judge's decisions are final and not subject to challenge, etc.
Pretty simple, right?
So have at it. Start spreadin' the news, as Frank Sinatra sang. Wolves everywhere will thank you.
