So for a few months now, I've been teasing a big anthology announcement AND a big collaboration announcement. Today, I can make both of them.
I teamed up with the amazingly multitalented author/actress Amber Benson (The Calliope Reaper-Jones series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc.) to write a short story (a longish short story) called "Amuse-bouche." It'll be published in January 2014, in an anthology called Dark Duets, edited by Christopher Golden. Here's the entire table of contents--as you can see, it includes some of the heaviest hitters in horror and dark fantasy.
TRIP TRAP -- by Sherrilyn Kenyon & Kevin J. Anderson
WELDED -- by Tom Piccirilli & T.M. Wright
DARK WITNESS -- by Charlaine Harris & Rachel Caine
REPLACING MAX -- by Stuart MacBride & Allan Guthrie
T. RHYMER -- by Gregory Frost & Jonathan Maberry
SHE, DOOMED GIRL -- by Sarah MacLean & Carrie Ryan
HAND JOB -- by Chelsea Cain & Lidia Yuknavitch
HOLLOW CHOICES -- by Robert Jackson Bennett & David Liss
AMUSE-BOUCHE -- by Amber Benson & Jeff Mariotte
BRANCHES, CURVING -- by Tim Lebbon & Michael Marshall Smith
RENASCENCE – by Rhodi Hawk and F. Paul Wilson
BLIND LOVE -- by Kasey Lansdale & Joe R. Lansdale
TRAPPER BOY -- by Holly Newstein & Rick Hautala
STEWARD OF THE BLOOD -- by Nate Kenyon & James A. Moore
CALCULATING ROUTE -- by Michael Koryta & Jeffrey David Greene
SISTERS BEFORE MISTERS -- by Sarah Rees Brennan, Cassandra Clare, and
SINS LIKE SCARLET -- by Mark Morris & Rio Youers
The idea is that each story is the product of a first-time collaboration between authors. None of these folks have written with each other before. I know that Amber and I had a great time with ours, and have to assume that these other people did as well. Our story is a very, very dark and twisty journey to some strange places.
But wait, as they say on infomercials, that's not all!
Because if you're fortunate enough be registered for the San Diego Comic-Con this year, you'll get to see the spotlight panel on me (tentatively scheduled for 10-11 AM on Friday, July 19), where I'll be interviewed by none other than--Amber Benson! Will we delight (or terrify) the audience by reading snippets from our twisted masterpiece? I guess you'll have to be there to find out!
