Okay, they like to call it Comic-Con International: San Diego, but you and I know it'll always be the San Diego Comic-Con, right?
This year marks 30 years since I first attended. During that time, I've only missed it once (for a very important family occasion that couldn't be missed). And this year, for the first time, I'm a Special Guest of the convention, which means, among other things, that I'll get a spotlight panel, at which I'll be interviewed by the amazing Amber Benson. Chances are, we'll read a little of our sick-n-twisted short story, "Amuse-Bouche."
Here's my full panel and signing schedule:
Thursday, July 18
4:00 – 5:00 pm Keep ‘Em at the Edge of Their Seats -- The gory, gruesome, and paranoia-inducing elements in these novels will take readers on a jet-fueled ride to the dark side. These writers spare no expense to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up with stories that will surprise you at every turn. Their protagonists solve crimes, kick ass, and don’t let anyone--or anything--stand in their way. Thrill to the discussion with James Rollins (Eye of God), Duane Swierczynski (Point & Shoot), Stephen Blackmoore (Dead Things), Charlie Huston (Skinner), Jeffrey J. Mariotte (Season of the Wolf) and Roger Hobbs (Ghostman), led by David Mariotte of Mysterious Galaxy. Room 25ABC
Post-panel Signing, Autograph Area (AA)09 05:30 - 06:30 pm
Friday, July 19
10:00 – 11:00 am Spotlight on Jeff Mariotte: My Comic-Con Career—Jeff Mariotte (Season of the Wolf) will be interviewed by actress and author Amber Benson (the Calliope Reaper-Jones series) about his 30 years of working at San Diego Comic-Con. During that time, Jeff has sold books at Comic-Con for Hunter's Books and Mysterious Galaxy (of which he's a co-owner), and worked as VP of marketing for WildStorm Productions/Image Comics, senior editor for WildStorm Productions/DC Comics, and editor-in-chief for IDW Publishing. As a novelist and comic book writer, he has also appeared on programming over the years to discuss his more than 50 books, including 47 novels, and almost 150 comic books and graphic novels. Throughout his various careers, the thread linking everything together has been Comic-Con, and he'll talk about the highs and lows, the famous and the infamous, over his long affiliation with the con. Room 4
Post-panel Signing, AA02, 11:30 am -12:30 pm
6:00-7:00 pm International Association of Media Tie-in Writers: Scribe Awards -- Max Allan Collins (Mike Hammer), co-founder of the IAMTW, will announce the winners of this year's Scribe Awards for excellence in tie-in writing, including honoring this year's Grandmaster Award "Faust" winner, Ann C. Crispin (Pirates of the Caribbean). Join panelists Kevin J. Anderson (Dune), Nathan Collins (Metal Gear), Peter David (After Earth), Glenn Hauman (Star Trek), Jeff Mariotte (Terminator), and Rebecca Moesta (Star Wars) for a freewheeling look at one of the most popular and yet under-appreciated branches of the writing trade. Followed by a Q&A session. Room 23ABC
And, yeah... Terminator? Well, clearly I didn't write that panel description.
It's gonna be a good time, though. If you're at the con, I hope you'll find me or help me find you.
