Many years ago now, I did a signing at a bookstore in Delaware, called Between Books. Back in 2009, for the store's 30th anniversary, an anthology called The Stories in Between was released featuring some of the many authors who had signed there over the decades--a book I was proud to be in, alongside such literary luminaries as John Passarella, Jonathan Maberry, Catherynne M. Valente, Gregory Frost, Jonathan Carroll, Maria V. Snyder, and others. My story was a kind of ghost story, with a few twists, called "Janey in Amber."
Sadly, Between Books is with us no longer. The Stories in Between can still be had in paperback from the publisher, Fantasist Enterprises, and "Janey in Amber" is also now readily available to ebook readers in in my horror fiction collection Nine Frights, which can be read on Kobo, Kindle, and virtually every other format imaginable.
And maybe it's a Christmas Eve miracle, but on my desk at this moment are signed contracts for a film option for "Janey in Amber." The option is with David Ridley, a low-budget but very talented filmmaker in the UK, for a short film to be based on my short story. He's in talks with a terrific director, and I'm confident that the story is in excellent hands. I've had film and TV interest before, but those deals have never resulted in anything being made. I'm hopeful that this one will be, and that when it is, it will be stunning.
So, Merry Christmas to me! And with luck, by next Christmas there'll be a short film to share with all my readers.
