This time of year, there are "Best of" lists all over the place. Most of them, we ignore, because they're obviously subjective, and my best of anything isn't necessarily yours or anybody else's.
Still, every now and then, one comes along that seems entirely objective, and so astute and insightful that it must be taken seriously and shared widely. For that reason, I have to direct you to the Arched Doorway's Best Books of 2014 list, which includes both of the anthologies in which writing partner Marsheila (Marcy) Rockwell and I have stories, Out of Tune and Neverland's Library. Also included are terrific books by other pals like Gini Koch, Seanan McGuire, Joshua Palmatier, Jim Butcher, and more. Check it out.
And since the year is winding down, a personal note. 2014 has been a difficult year for a lot of people, present company included. I'm feeling good about 2015, though, not least because of the releases of my novel Empty Rooms from WordFire Press, many more short stories by Marcy and me, Marcy's Neil Gaiman's Lady Justice novel trilogy, Jonathan Maberry's Deadlands novel Ghostwalkers, and Slate, the comic book series I'm writing with my son David, from Visionary Comics, plus other projects I can't talk about yet. And I'm optimistic about 2015 for personal reasons, too. I hope the new year is the best year you've ever had--so far. And as always, thanks for reading!
