Jonathan Maberry didn't invent zombie horror, but between his Joe Ledger series, his Rot & Ruin series, and his terrific Deadlands: Ghostwalkers (a book I had a little hand in bringing into the world), he sure reinvigorated it after it was in danger of becoming pretty stale.
So when Marsheila (Marcy) Rockwell and I wrote 7 SYKOS--in which the Infecteds aren't undead, or even dead dead, but just brain-eatingly sick--what Jonathan would think of it was never far from our minds. We'd hoped to ask him for a cover blurb, but the publisher's production schedule was such that we didn't have time. Today, though, we found out what he thought, because he posted a fantastic, 5-star review:
"7 SYKOS is a wild and crazy ride that smashes through barriers and roadblocks and drives way the hell out into new territory for the zombie genre. Inventive, fun (in a dark, weird, twisted way), filled with twists and turns, and packed with characters you'll love --even if you also hate some of them. I loved it!"
To say that we couldn't be happier would be an understatement. Okay, maybe a little happier if some variation on that had appeared on the book cover, but still--we both have tremendous respect for Jonathan as a writer, a human being, and a friend, and it's a thrill to have him be so enthusiastic about our book.
On the off chance that you haven't read it yet, it's still available as a paperback and an e-book (in every e-format known to humanity). If you can't find the paperback in your nearest bookstore, ask them to order it, because it's easily obtained through the major book distributors.
And if you're anywhere near southeastern Arizona on Saturday, April 2, be sure to come and see us at Bisbee Books & Music! It's a wonderful shop that sells new and used books, along with musical instruments, records, and more fun stuff. And it's close to some of Bisbee's best coffee and yummiest ice cream. Marcy and I are signing from 1:30-3:30, and we'd sure love to see you there.
